Nutritional Supplementation

Nutritional supplementation is used as part of an integrative approach to mental health treatment. This means that nutritional supplements are used in addition to, rather than instead of, psychotropic medications. The purpose of nutritional supplements in integrative psychiatry is to augment or enhance the effect of medications when medications are not sufficient to treat mental health symptoms.

Nutritional supplements have been successfully used to augment medications for the treatment of major depressive disorder, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).  Any use of nutritional supplements under the guidance of Dr. Bowers is informed by the medical research literature.
